ThE sToRy So FaR...

No, the above picture above does not resemble me (but he is one of my favourite characters from 'the Simpsons'). But here's a site about about me anyhow --> Click Here. Anyway, more to the point though, I've created this site to lend support and to encourage  my favourite actress. It was a quite a struggle- researching the web and putting together all this material over many, many months (because afterall I do have my work and studies to tend to). I am a patriotic Indian living abroad- and one of the best ways that an NRI like me can keep in touch with the youth culture in India is through Hindi movies.

Unfortunately the majority of what Bollywood churns out every year is utter thrash, as evidenced by its rate of 'flops' in recent times. A lot of the scripts are not worth the paper they are written on. Then there are directors who are intent on fleecing the movie going public of their hard-earned money by adventuring into the absurd; actresses who are more suited to work in advertisements for under-garment manufacturers (than acting); and actors who have forgotten that they are actually men. But even in this doom-and-gloom, there are occassional flashes of brilliance. In 2001 there were two of them infact - 'Lagaan' and 'Dil Chata Hai', two movies that showcase the very best talent of the industry, and both are set to earn their place as classics of Indian cinema along side the likes of 'Mother India' and 'Guide'.

Furthermore with 'Lagaan' came the discovery of a young actress that Indian cinema and the movie going public, truely deserves and badly needs - one Gracy Singh. Whilst old stalwart actresses of the 1990's (who can actually act), are still around, it will be the likes of Gracy who will move the Hindi film industry forwards (as far as actresses are concerned) in the coming years. Not surprisingly when the great Amitabh Bachchan was asked to comment about Gracy at a recent function, he took one look at her, put his arm around her in a warm fatherly hug and announced, "She is the star of the new century - confident, talented and unassuming."

I think greatly of Gracy because she can not only act, but she is also is at ease with classical Indian dancing (which she has a real conviction for, and leaves most of her peers to shame). But beyond the screen her calm demeanour, manners and innocence are virtues to be admired. And of course she is gorgeous. All put together Gracy ranks near my two other favourite actresses (of yesteryear) - Vyjayanthimala Bali and Waheeda Rehman.

With the right roles in the right movies, Gracy will one day be regarded as an epitome of the classical Indian beauty. In my mind she already is one...
